Jo Kay Ghosh, PhD, MPH

Director of Research and Evaluation

Dr. Jo Kay Ghosh serves as the Director of Research and Evaluation at Heluna Health. Bringing more than 20 years of experience in public health research and practice, she leads the research and evaluation department at Heluna Health to drive innovative, high-impact research and utilize rigorous methods to improve program quality and enhance service delivery. Her research program focuses on understanding climate-related impacts on vulnerable populations and identifying levers of change to mitigate and adapt to these climate and environmental health risks.

Dr. Ghosh has worked in population health research, public health practice, policy development, and community engagement. She is an expert in risk communication and has worked extensively to address community air pollution concerns in southern California communities. Prior to joining Heluna Health, she served as Health Effects Officer and Director of Community Air Programs at the South Coast Air Quality Management District in the greater Los Angeles region, where she led groundbreaking environmental justice programs. Previously, she led the tuberculosis epidemiology team at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. She has conducted research in each of these roles, as well as at UCLA and USC, and has numerous publications in the fields of air pollution health effects, maternal/child health, and tuberculosis.

Dr. Ghosh completed her postdoctoral training at the USC Department of Preventive Medicine and received her PhD in epidemiology from the UCLA School of Public Health. She holds an MPH in epidemiology and biostatistics from UC Berkeley’s School of Public Health and a BS in bioengineering from UC Berkeley’s School of Engineering.

In her spare time, she enjoys running, solving puzzles, spending time with family, and experimenting with tofu recipes.
