Community Fund

Contributions to the Heluna Health Community Fund provide us the flexibility to meet the highest priority needs of those we serve, by expanding the innovative, solution-based, and culturally congruent, community-led interventions aimed at eliminating
health disparities among vulnerable populations.

Your gift supports efforts including providing essential breastfeeding and nutrition supports, early literacy interventions, help for the unhoused, and training programs for the next generation of health workers.

Birth Equity

CinnaMoms, launched in 2015 to increase breastfeeding rates among Black/African American women in Heluna Health’s PHFE WIC program, creates support circles that provide encouragement and a safe space for families to connect around breastfeeding practices, familial feeding experiences, and health benefits. In 2023, CinnaMoms Crenshaw opened in South Los Angeles, thanks to Heluna Health funding. Black babies in the U.S. face an infant mortality rate more than double that of white babies, often due to low birth weight or premature birth, issues that could be addressed by better prenatal care, including breastfeeding education. Your gift supports families by providing vital prenatal education, postpartum supplies, and breastfeeding support.

Early Literacy

Little by Little is an evidence-based program for families participating in Heluna Health’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (PHFE WIC) in Southern California. It provides free, high-quality books for children ages 0-5 and parental support to foster early literacy and improve school readiness, reaching more than 60,000 children annually in Los Angeles County. Two-thirds of American children living in poverty have no books at home, but when families engage in creating early literacy behaviors and receive free books, children enter school with stronger literacy and language skills. Your gift helps us provide these essential books to families in need.
