Shaping the Future of Population Health—Together.
As public health professionals, we know it’s our job to protect our communities and work to ensure the health of all people, even through the many changes we face in our time. We are equipped to thrive in the face of uncertainty, always ready to respond to a crisis with stability and calculated response. At PHFE, we are proud of our legacy of partnerships with public health agencies, epidemiologists, social service organizations, care providers, research institutions, and others over the past 49 years. Together, we rise resolutely in the face of change. From disease outbreaks to fluid funding, shifting political climates and emerging social needs, our partnerships have been vital to our collective success in improving the health and well-being of our communities. The field of population health has evolved over the years and so has PHFE.
As we move into our 50th year of providing program development and fiscal support services, we know it’s time for another kind of change. We are excited to announce that PHFE will look to the future with a new face and name: Heluna Health. Our name references the Hawaiian word ‘Heluna,’ signifying ‘population’ or ‘total count.’ To us, Heluna signifies ‘total population or community health.’ As such, our name focuses on what we intend to improve: the health of the total population. With our new identity, we aim to intensify our efforts, working with you, to catalyze innovation in population health and bring heightened focus to our long-standing commitment to creative collaboration. Additionally, as we prepare for more changes to come over the next 50 years, we will broaden our menu of program and support services to help our partners optimize their population health efforts.
As the new Heluna Health, we are ready for the future more than ever. The meaning behind our new name represents the work we do as one community of professionals, ensuring the health and well-being of a collective global community. We seek to demonstrate the power that each of us has as part of an entire, interwoven community—one population, living and working together. Each of us plays an integral part in shaping the future of that community—locally and globally, and communities look to public health experts to lead the way.
Even with the exciting and challenging changes ahead of us, we remain committed to our core program and support services as a leader in fiscal sponsorship, contracts and grants management, human resources support, accounting and financial operations services, as well as our direct public health program leadership. When we were founded in 1968 as the Public Health Foundation of Los Angeles, our mission was to support the Los Angeles County Health Department in order to ensure that more LA residents had access to the services they needed. Today, our work takes us across the country and beyond our national borders. Operating in partnership is still at the heart of what we do. We will continue to build on our core partnership model as we take on new programs and tackle new public health challenges.
The future of population health is always stronger when we work together. We hope you’ll join us as we find new ways to improve population health outcomes and ensure all people receive the services they need to live healthy and productive lives. Welcome to the Heluna Health family.
