Organizations
Heluna Health, a national nonprofit leader for over 50 years, collaborates with public health agencies, healthcare systems, community-based organizations, and policymakers to improve population health. We focus on equitable access to services, innovative health interventions, and addressing systemic disparities. Our team supports or implements 500 public health and social service initiatives annually focusing on areas from outbreak preparedness to the health impacts of climate change and the social determinants of health.
Public Health Foundation Enterprise’s Women, Infants and Children (WIC), a program of Heluna Health, is the largest nonprofit WIC nutrition network in the U.S., serving more than 180,000 low-income individuals each month. WIC is for families and caretakers of babies and kids younger than age five, and pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum adults who have a low income (up to 185% of the federal poverty level) and are nutritionally vulnerable. WIC’s nutrition plan provides healthy foods at no-cost to those who need them the most. With the help of WIC, mothers, infants, and children receive nutritious foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes as well as other supportive resources.
The Little by Little Program is an evidence-based early literacy program for young children (ages 0-5) from families engaged in the WIC program. By providing free, high-quality books and parental support and instruction, our children’s literacy program fosters early literacy skills, improves school readiness, and helps children prepare basic literacy skills to succeed in school and in life.
Since 2019, Growing Hope Gardens, now partnered with Community Corporation of Santa Monica, Holos Communities, and The People Concern, has successfully sustained 15 onsite resident food gardens and a farm. Each garden, varying in size and setup, includes innovative wicking beds in metal stock tanks, allowing growth even without nearby water access. Supported by weekly maintenance visits and educational micro-workshops, residents learn essential gardening skills, from building wicking beds and transplanting seedlings to harvesting and preparing communal dishes. This initiative fosters sustainable onsite stewardship through hands-on activities, seasonal vegetable signage, and an Online Learning Hub.
